Stenciling a Sub-Floor with the Otomi Tribal Stencil

Good morning, my DIY friends. So the Holidays are coming and along with the festivities also come house guests. Yup, it’s that time of year again. With guests on the way, you’d better get started on sprucing up that spare room. After all you would hardly want your guests staying in a room in your home that’s slightly better than the local dive motel, would you? Of course, not! Since there is very little time (and probably no budget) for major renovations, Cutting Edge Stencils has the perfect project for you involving stencils!

Meet Jen, the super creative blogger behind Twenty Something Feet. One day Jen decided that she could not live with the carpet in her guest room one more minute. With the holidays coming, she decided it was time to give the space a much needed makeover. Here is what the room looked like before.

Drab, dreary and lacking personal style. Time for a makeover on a limited budget. It’s a good thing that Jen is a super creative DIYer. She pulled up the old carpet and then filled in the holes with wood filler. Once the sub-floor was completely cleaned, she was ready to prime it. Jen used Kilz, an oil based primer. After the primer was dry, she painted the floor using Benjamin Moore’s cloud cover 855, a soft white with a subtle gray tint. Then she was ready for the fun part. Stenciling! Jen chose our Otomi Allover stencil pattern. She said, “I like the busy pattern…and I think it hides the imperfections in the floor.” She painted the tribal pattern using Benjamin Moore’s collingwood OC-28.

After the stencil was dry, Jen applied four coats of sealer using Varathane Floor Finish in satin. Ready to see how it all turned out? Hold those jaws, cause this stenciled floor is jaw-dropping gorgeous!
